Coming Soon: Your Custom Medicare Reimbursement Analysis
Wondering how the upcoming Medicare reimbursement changes will impact your ASC? You're not alone. But before you start making those complicated calculations, keep an eye on your inbox: MEDIBIS will soon be sending an analysis to all of our customers who have financial cubes.
The analysis will include a breakdown of all cases each center has billed Medicare over the past year, including how many times specific procedure combinations were performed and how they were reimbursed. The analysis will also compare that information to an estimate of what the reimbursement would be under the first phase of the new Medicare rate in 2008.
"One calculation will show the variance of how they have been paid versus how they should expect to be paid next year. We then show the impact of that change by multiplying the historical volume of cases by the variance," said MEDIBIS Vice President of Technology Sean Corbin.
Additionally, the analysis will compare those reimbursement numbers to the average costs for each procedure combination.
"Our customers will be able to look at this analysis and answer the question, 'Is a case with this combination of procedures profitable?'" Corbin said.
Support Analyst Michelle Komarek said the new Medicare rates, which will be phased in over a period of four years, will have a significant impact on many ASCs.
"We have a lot of clients who are very concerned about how this is going to affect them," Komarek said. "Once they look at this analysis, they can call us with any questions they might have."
The Medicare rate change analysis is in development and will be sent directly to all customers with financial cubes as soon as it is ready. For more information, contact support@medibis.com.
Mission Critical: MEDIBIS Dashboard to Bring At-A-Glance Data to Your Inbox
Introducing the MEDIBIS Dashboard, an at-a-glance report that goes directly to your e-mail inbox. Soon, you'll be able to receive regular overviews with easy-to-read graphics - your own personal "mission control center" - without even logging in to MEDIBIS. The Dashboard will automatically be delivered on a regular basis.
"We realize our users are busy and don't always have the time to log in and analyze their data," said Vice President of Technology Sean Corbin. "The Dashboard is a '50,000-foot view' that gives them a snapshot of where their center stands."
The Dashboard will graphically compare critical, year-to-date data to that from the same time last year. The Dashboard will show YTD comparisons of:
- Case counts
- Average net revenue
- Insurance payments and
- Costs
"This is high-level yet important information that someone could scan in less than a minute," Corbin said.
Users can drill down into the cubes for a more detailed report, he added.
MEDIBIS clients can expect to be contacted about the Dashboard during the first quarter of 2008. If you have questions, drop a line to sales@medibis.com.
Meet the MEDIBIS Support Team
If you've ever called MEDIBIS for assistance, been through training or attended a Boot Camp, there's a good chance you've met at least one of our support analysts. This issue, we tell you a little bit more about the people who are here to help you make the most of MEDIBIS.
Michelle Komarek
When Michelle joined MEDIBIS a year ago, she brought with her two years of experience working in an ambulatory surgery center. She said that has given her an advantage in helping MEDIBIS users.
"Having a background in ASCs helps," she said. Michelle had also spent three-and-a-half years in the insurance industry, giving her a strong understanding of how that industry relates to the ASC industry, as well.
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Michelle earned her bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Central Oklahoma.
While Michelle enjoys traveling across the country for on-site training and Boot Camps, she's cutting back on travel for the rest of the year, as she and her husband are expecting their first child in December. Congratulations, Michelle!
Nathan Rice
Texas...Oklahoma...Texas... Nathan Rice spent the majority of his youth in one of these two rival states, moving back and forth between the two several times. He has continued the pattern into his adult life, working in the Fort Worth office of Oklahoma-based MEDIBIS.
Born in Texas, Nathan and his family moved to Tulsa for eight years, following his father's career in the oil business. They eventually moved back to Texas. Nathan attended the University of Kansas for two years on a swimming scholarship and received his undergraduate degree in computer science from Texas Tech. He went back to Oklahoma for his MBA at the University of Oklahoma's Michael F. Price College of Business.
And now, he now finds himself back in Texas, providing support to MEDIBIS clients and attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he expects to earn his master's degree in Divinity in 2011.
He said working for MEDIBIS while attending the Seminary "is the best of both worlds."
Kattie Taylor
Kattie Taylor is the newest addition to the MEDIBIS support team. An Oklahoma native, Kattie earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma.
After teaching fifth grade for several years, Kattie decided she was ready for a change. She felt working for MEDIBIS was the perfect way for her to be involved in the corporate world.
With her background in education, teaching others comes as second nature to Kattie.
